Be the Brand
I am a little obsessed by the idea that in the future, branding will extend down to the individual and everyone will exude their own personal brand with every interaction they have with the wide world.
In many ways, we have been doing this for centuries. Resumes, personal style, holiday cards, all of these are time honored and traditional ways of communicating a personal brand and showing people how we want to be seen, interpreted and consumed.
But technology is allowing us to broadcast our personal brand with broad reaching media in which we can compose our message and present it succinctly, visually, and universally. Sites like My Space, Linked In, and let’s face it Match.com are simply outlets for us to broadcast our personal brand.
My favorite new example of someone taking the personal brand and extending it to their personal life is Maybe Mike.
This eligible bachelor tackled his dating life like a business case. And what came out was a great example of artful personal branding. In one page I have a clear image of who MaybeMike is and what MaybeMike stands for.
And let me tell you, the ladies love it. Effective branding had created a community of MaybeMike loyalists as well as launched some serious PR buzz. Unfortunately for MaybeMike, he only really wants one customer…good luck with that.
The lesson here…you are a brand. And with effective brand communication that really resonates with your target market, they will come to you.
